I bought a bunch of cheap solar powered toys from China with the intention of harvesting the solar panels for a project of mine. Turns out they were all fake

So literally $Cash in the trash? All jokes aside, you can buy solar lights at the dollar store and harvest the panels. Maybe an option for your project?

12 inches away from a 400 watt High pressure Sodium bulb is equal in intensity to a bright sunny day...

Its quite amazing how much the human eye adjusts to different light situations.

Especially when it comes to "yellow" light. It's incredible how discolored many indoor pictures turn out.

My makeshift "studio lights" produce about 4,500 lumens . According to Google, at noon on a sunny day, during summer, with no clouds and less than 10% humidity, the sun produces about 6,000 lumens .

what exactly is fake about them? are they not really solar panels or are they defective or what? (can't play the video at work).

I 2nd the cheap solar yard lights from the dollar store. the panels work great and you even get a AAA rechargeable battery in the deal. I think I paid 88cents ea for the last batch I got to make a solar charger from.

Is there a tab or switch on the cars to close the circuit and make them move? Even the cheap solar lights at the dollar store have a tab you have to pull before they work.
